The Department of Community Health Nursing organized an innovative awareness program titled “Quick Health Sparks: Read. Recall. React.” in observance of World Health Day. The event was designed to promote healthy eating habits, aligned with this year’s theme: “Healthy Beginnings and Hopeful Future.”
A strategic initiative was carried out at the entrance of the food court—a location recognized as a point of temptation for unhealthy food choices. The goal was to engage the general public in an interactive and reflective educational experience before they entered the dining area.
As part of the initiative, self-reading flashcards were distributed to individuals. These cards contained simple, evidence-based health messages on the importance of a balanced diet, the need to avoid sugary beverages and processed food, and tips for making healthier food choices.
Following the reading, participants were asked to recall and repeat the key points they had just read. This participatory teaching strategy served to reinforce learning through immediate recall, enhancing both retention and reflection. The nursing students facilitated the interactions and offered brief clarifications or additional information when needed.
The event successfully captured public attention and was appreciated for its concise, engaging, and thought-provoking approach to health education. This initiative served as a reminder that small interventions at the right moment can spark meaningful behavior change, aligning with the vision of promoting a healthier future for all.
